The main issue is that they've never seen such a big hole in someone's diaphragm and there are some well-intentioned and passionate turf wars brewing over the issue. There is just very little precedent in the medical literature to follow. I must emphasize, however, that the trauma and ICU staff here have been nothing less than spectacular.
